I'm building a '69 Corvette for my son. I've decided to go full-tilt blown street machine and I want to do a good deal of detail, starting with the engine and the undercarriage.
Colors and DetailsThe kits as they come are pretty basic, but there are lots of tricks a modeler can use to improve them. One thing is to paint lots of details. Another is to add missing details, like plug wires, hoses, etc.

AftermarketThis engine is obviously not factory stock. A blower, dual carbs, and Moroso valve cover are just a few of the giveaways

This engine is obviously not factory stock. A blower, dual carbs, and Moroso valve covers are just a few of the giveaways. Since the engine is more street machine than vintage, I'll likely feel more free to customize the body as well.
It's a StartThere is more that I want to add to this motor, but we have a good start.

There is more that I want to add to this motor, but we have a good start. I'm not going to dub this thing or go for a modern look. I'm thinking cover of Car Craft magazine, circa 1980. Back then we were quick to mod a muscle car. Hey, they weren't classics, yet!
Early CamaroThis is what we call a sleeper. Nothing outwardly suggests that this is anything but a daily driver

This is what we call a sleeper. Nothing outwardly suggests that this is anything but a daily driver. No stripes, no pipes, and no hickies on the hood.
UnderneathUnder the hood is the payoff, a very potent but very streetable big block Chevy motor

Under the hood is the payoff, a very potent but very streetable big block Chevy motor. The 396 shoehorned into a '67 Camaro was a recipe for fun... or disaster, if you didn't maintain your concentration.
UnderstatedThis car reminds me of the projects that my friends and I worked on in high school. Power in a plain wrapper

This car reminds me of the projects that my friends and I worked on in high school. Power in a plain wrapper. My '68 Buick Gran Sport 400 was understated in black primer, but when your foot got heavy it was more fun than a pimply kid should be allowed to have.
Snappy ProwlerI actually got my brother to build a model. Not something he had the patience for usually, but he was proud of it when it got done.

I actually got my brother to build a model. Not something he had the patience for usually, but he was proud of it when it got done. No paint, no glue, just sit down for an hour and follow the directions. Yes, that can be a real challenge for some folks.
That's My BoyMy son is rather like my brother in the patience department, but this metal bodied Chevelle was a great second project for him and he seems happy with it

My son is rather like my brother in the patience department, but this metal bodied Chevelle was a great second project for him and he seems happy with it. We added a few detailing touches under the hood, but mostly it was just a few screws and snap fit parts.
First ModelMy son did this snap fit, albeit somewhat impatiently, as his first foray into models.

My son did this snap fit, albeit somewhat impatiently, as his first foray into models. It gave him a little taste of the hobby.
More ObviousA brighter color, a few stripes, a little bulge in the hood... the Z/28 is not very subtle

A brighter color, a few stripes, a little bulge in the hood... the '69 Z/28 is not subtle. It gets the blood moving and makes your fingers itch to touch it... if you have the fever.
Z/28You have to love the stance and cocky strut of the 1969 Z

You have to love the stance and cocky strut of the 1969 Z. Red was the only color that came to mind for this car.
Rear QuarterThis one is okay, but it could have been a lot better. I went box stock this time. Next time will be different

This model looks okay, but it could have been a lot better. I went box stock this time. Next time will be different. I'd actually like to try my hand at the 1/12th scale version that is out now. Everything here is 1/24th or 1/25th.
YawnThis Z looks like it is yawning about its run-of-the-mill mill.

This Z looks like it is yawning about its run-of-the-mill mill. If I ever get the gumption I might detail this motor a bit more... or just rip it out and put in a custom jobby.
Say AhNope, no excitement here

Nope, no excitement here. Might as well be a Toyota four-banger.
